Are You Limiting God?
Are you limiting God? That might seem like a strange question. How can we, who are mere human beings, limit God, who is omnipotent? Read what happened to Israel when the nation was wandering in the wilderness:
How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, And grieved Him in the desert! Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. They did not remember His power: The day when He redeemed them from the enemy… (Psalm 78:40-42, New King James Version, emphasis added)
Israel limited God because they did not remember His power, the power that He used to redeem the whole nation from the enemy, Egypt. We Christians sometimes forget that Paul prayed:
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places…’ (Ephesians 2:17-20, NKJV, emphasis added)
Wow! The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work right now for us who believe. Let’s meditate on this hugely encouraging truth. The death-destroying power of God is at work right now for us who believe. If we can fix our minds on this wonderful truth, we will not limit God as Israel did. They ended up wandering in the wilderness when they could have been in the Promised Land a generation sooner.
The power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power that saved us from sin and works on our behalf now. Let’s not limit God and be content with wandering. Let’s remember His power and enter into our own promised land.
